I loved this book, it was soooo well written. I am a writer myself so can appreciate a story with flavor. I am a southener so love the attention and detail she used in describing her town and characters. This book was southern cuisine at its best. Fried Chicken rice and gravy good. The only thing I would change about this book is one small thing on the menu: Blackberry cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream Yea ok, I have picked my own blackberries for cobbler; BUT PEACH cobbler and vanilla bean ice cream sooo much better. You go Laura I also loved the fact that she understands that most Country Southeners, true Country Southeners, are God fearing and don't use Gods name in vain much and if we do we repent real quick. I love a good steamy novel and this author delivers with gusto in the bedroom. I really want to see more from her and soon. Slow and Steady Rush A Sweet Home Alabama Novel edition by Laura Trentham Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
What a terrific series start. When the story ended, I had tears in my eyes. I didn't want to leave. The author's characters-Robbie and Darcy-are perfect. The conflicts, settings, and (oh my gosh!) the descriptions were perfect. I can't wait for the second in this series.
This author is a superb storyteller. Definitely an auto buy for me!!
A fabulous debut! I loved the story, the humorous voice and how it holds all the perfect ingredients that make up a romance - the small town, the war veteran with the scarred past, the staid librarian you just know has a wild(e) side. Sexy, sweet and super romantic. It gripped me from the beginning to the end; I highly recommend this! I truly believe the author has quite a bright future in romance writing.
This is Laura Trentham's debut, and it is exactly the kind of romance I love to read. There are lots of characters, lots of conflict, and the secondary characters are meaty, with conflicts of their own. It's infused with funny moments that add lightness and pure delight. So rare to find books with intelligent, great humor. There's a lot here--just like life. It's a great read. A perfect blend of drama and lighthearted moments!
I do not normally read romance novels but I am from the south and love football so this caught my eye. Usually I find the character development and plot to be poor with bad dialogue but this book is VERY well written. I couldn't put it down. The characters are great and there are a couple of side stories that really make the book. I have read a couple of the super popular 'love' stories lately and have hated them. The 'love' scenes in this book are much hotter. I have already pre-ordered the second book in the series. Very impressed with this author and can't wait to read more. Well worth the download!
I grew up in a small town much like Falcon, the town in the book. Although my hometown is in the north, the characters in the town resonated with me. There are residents like Ada, with roots so deep they would never think of leaving, and those like Darcy who can't wait to get out because they need to start over, to leave their reputation behind. The description of football Fridays brought back high school memories, good and bad. This is what makes Ms. Trentham's writing so wonderful she has the ability to tap into the emotional moments in life, both watershed moments and moments that are the heartbeat of daily life.
The romance between Darcy and Dalton is well developed and hot! I liked Dalton's insecurity about love--his background shaped his views on relationships. It isn't easy falling in love under the microscope of a small town. Trentham does a great job of showing the positives and the negatives of small town living.
Dalton's best friend is Logan. His book is next and I can't wait! Wish my small town had as many hot guys as Falcon, Alabama. )
As a Southerner, I really appreciated the realism of the small Southern town and also the description of what it was like for a city girl to "go home again." I could really picture the people and places in Falcon. I found myself rooting for Darcy and wanting her to get her life together. Robbie was a great romantic hero (love those tortured heroes). Their initial meeting was especially fun and charming, and the "let's pretend we're a couple" trope is one of my favorites in romance. Also loved the relationship between Darcy and her grandmother and with her cousin Logan (who seems pretty dreamy, too!) The story had a lot of humor, but also pulled the heartstrings. I'll definitely read the next one in the series.
This is another book I bought based on the recommendation of "Smart B*tches/Trashy Books" and although I don't like football, I loved this book. I could relate to the Falcons having losing seasons since my hometown baseball team is going through that now. I loved Darcy and Robbie. My favorite scenes were when Darcy and Kat were thinking up porno names for Darcy's romance with Robbie. I have to admit, I liked "The Lusty Librarian," too. And there was a scene when Darcy wondered which of her friends she could call in Atlanta when something went wrong and she realized that all of her true friends were in Falcon. I loved that scene and so many others. This book was well-written, funny and sad, and I loved all of the characters!
