Package came and book was in great condition. As far as the content of the book, this is my favorite Sherlock Holmes story (besides a Study in Scarlet). Turns into a great read when a very familiar psychological analyst makes his appearance in the text (Sigmund Freud). If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes you Have to read this story.
This was an amazing Holmes pastiche and unique in its writing style. I truly enjoyed the storyline and liked seeing a human, flawed side of Holmes that Doyle didn't really explore in the canon.
One of my all time favorites. I read this book over twenty years ago, and I have recently read it again and also listened to it with the audio version. I will probably listen and read it many more times, because it is great.
I really enjoyed this book. I love almost everything Sherlock and this book did not disappoint.A little bit different than Watson but oh so wonderful to escape to on a snowy day, or a sunny day actually any day. The writing is good, succinct and interesting . the story line is excellent. I highly recommend it for all Sherlock aficionados.
Nicholas Meyer has completely captured the language, atmosphere and tone of the original Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes tales, to the extent that I might even say he's improved on them. In addition he has concocted a marvelous Sherlockian plot that culminates in a shocking and revelatory exposition of Holmes's backstory that brilliantly ties together all that we know of him from the Conan Doyle canon. To say more would be to spoil the fun. Brilliant stuff.
This "rediscovered" Sherlock Holmes adventure recounts the unique collaboration of Holmes and Sigmund Freud in the solution of a mystery on which the lives of millions may depend. I enjoyed this story immensely because of the glimpse behind the curtain into the mind and history of Sherlock Holmes. I found myself on the edge of my seat as I read about a thrilling train chase in which several lives were in the balance. Excellent book which will lead me to read Nicholas Meyer's other Holmes adventures.
I first read this book in the 1970’s, and it has stood the test of time. A delightful pastiche of Conan Doyle’s detective. Dr Watson must contrive to cure Holmes of his deadly addiction to cocaine.
Travel through England, and onwards to Vienna, to the home of Sigmund Freud ensues, and then a greater case presents itself.
